EDHEC Global MBA is a life changing experience (90% of EDHEC Global MBA graduates will make a significant career move after the 10 month program), and a gateway to an international career (83% of graduates work outside of France). A key ingredient to the success of the program is the strong network of global companies. Whether large international groups, leading SMEs or start-ups, EDHEC’s partners all occupy a central place in their sector or industry. They create a dense and efficient ecosystem that nourishes education, strengthens the relevance of research and offers multiple career opportunities to students.

Illustrating this Business partnership and global scope, EDHEC MBA hosted a debate on the Secrets of Building International Careers with members of the International Advisory Board of EDHEC Business School, all top level executives from New York, Singapore and France.

For 1975 EDHEC graduate, Franck Moison, Vice Chairman at Colgate-Palmolive (New York), before meeting a company it’s important to gain a thorough understanding of the company’s strategy and the challenges they face in their market, their strengths and weaknesses, so you can make an impact. As a former football player, Gunilla Nordstrom, President & CEO Electrolux Appliances APAC and EVP Electrolux AB (Singapore), spoke of the challenge of taking a team and making it a winning team; she also stressed that moving internationally on a regular basis is exciting, but can be quite disruptive to the rest of the family so aspiring execs must consider the full picture. Steven Forcione, CEO at Red Fuse (New York), whose business is to buy media, highlighted the importance of analytics to make smarter choices about where to spend. As a venture capitalist, Candace Johnson, President of Johnson Paradigm Ventures (France/Luxembourg), advises startups that to help structure things from the outset they should consider how one day they might sell their company.

Among the many take away messages, the panel identified keys for success such as anticipating worldwide trends, having the courage to make tough decisions, building a great team, and getting results. For international assignments, they highlighted the importance of understanding the culture and learning to deal with touchy issues with care, fairness and respect.

The debate was moderated by career design and job hunting specialist Daniel Porot, on-campus to launch this year’s MBA CareerSMART program.
